Daihatsu DM950D parts available

Hi, and thanks for visiting my page. I sell used parts for Daihatsu DM950D engines as well as other brands and models such as the Yanmar 3TN66 and Briggs Diesel parts. Since I run all of these engines myself, I can answer some of your questions.

As you may already know, these are not very reliable engines. I have found they do not often make it past the 1,500 hour mark. However, they do run well for a while and crank out a lot of power for that small block.

The weakest links in the engine are head cracks, when a small crack develops between the exhaust valve and a pre-combustion chamber due to overheating; broken rods–usually for no reason; and premature cylinder wear. I have not figured the cause premature cylinder wear, either, but I see it often.

  4. You say the weak point is the head do you know any way of stopping it or what courses it to happen.
    As I have a Kawasaki mule 4010 model KAF950G year 2010. Which look like a DM950D.
    Which the side of the crank case is broken out just wondering if it worth fixing as you say if you get 1500 hours out them your going well.
    Do the DM950DT projuice a lot more power or not. Do both motor ( DM950D , DM950DT ) have the same problem.

    1. No stoping the head cracks if the engine overheats. And the few that survived to get long hours cracks start to form anyhow. And both turbo and non turbo have the same issues. With the turbo you get the added benefit of a little more power at the cost of a lot more expense.

  6. Looked at this page but in case you have new inventory, i need a good used Cylinder Assy for a DM950-D-C, p/n 825597. Also need one piston, p/n 825795.

    piston is available new, block is on back order from Briggs. Would consider replacement engine if you know what would work.

  8. 950D Daihatsu ,,need inj nozzle,,something hit the bottom of number 2 injector ,, glow plugs are all broken off ,,, going to pull head and ck .. any thoughts ,, Thanks Ken… P.S. Started missing when roll over

  9. Good Day, I have a Daihatsu DM950D that is filling the base up with diesel fuel. I had the injectors tested, one wasn’t spraying the greatest. Replaced it, same issue. The engine seemed to run fine untill it fills the base too much and starts to blow white, then black smoke out the exhaust. Could the fuel be leaking past the outout shaft on the fuel pump and running down the timing gears and into the base?

    1. That’s total new one to me,leaky injector would be my first guess I’ve never seen a pump leak out the back.

  11. Daihatsu DM950D in a Toro workman starts fine when cold but once up to operating temp it will not restart if you turn it off. Runs fine, good power, no smoke, no miss, coolant temp good. will run all day if you don’t turn it off. was told by dealer to get to no start and remove injectors from head and hook lines back up and see if I have a spray pattern . I did and reinstalled and bled but no start till it cooled down. at this time dealer said to bring it in. really want to repair myself. any idea? was leaning to fuelpump/injector pump but now not sure.

    1. Sorry for the late response you definitely need to check the fuel pump by cracking injector lines to see if you got spray. If you do you may then have to do a hot compression test at a glow plug hole.

  12. I have a 2001 Kawasaki Mule with the DMD950D engine. Was running hot, would stop when light came on. Bought a head gasket for it after ruling out radiator, hoses, etc. Had head machined at reputable shop before 2 attempts to put 2 different head gaskets on. The engine cranks, runs, but water comes out between head and block at head gasket. Wondering if there are other 3 cylinder diesel engines that could be adapted to fit? Kubota? Yanmar? Other? Have about given up on trying to find a used DM950D engine that is running and for sale. Thank you

    1. I’m sorry to say that all of the other three cylinder diesel manufacturers engines in that horsepower ranger two large to fit. If you sacrifice some horsepower the yanmar 3tn66 and the Perkins cat c1.1 are close but engine mounts and flywheel mounting would then be the issue.
